Pure London

London is set to showcase collections from top designers and emerging talents at the UK’s Leading fashion buying event. Fashion writer Laura Crichton reveals the latest style trends.
This summer the UK’s leading fashion buying event, Pure London, is expecting to welcome over 13,000 buyers from all over the world giving them the opportunity to get the fashion low down on must have trends of the moment and for next season.
The trade only event, which takes place at Olympia in Kensington from August 19 to 21, will provide retailers with an inside look at the fashion forecast for coming months. This ensures the latest trends are fresh from the catwalk and ready to buy in no time.
During its last show case in February, Pure London was host to some of the most established designers on the scene. Local brand Ruby and Ed of Melton Mowbray was there displaying its unique range in luxury loungewear. From ballerina slippers to silk tunic kaftan dresses, it proposed that staying in really is the new going out.
The brand’s product development manager, Laura Gurney, said: “We had lots of interest from potential buyers. It was rewarding knowing Ruby and Ed’s products were appreciated by some of the most top retailers around.”
Trousers are the ultimate in versatility so buyers can expect to see contemporary designs making a bold impression at Pure London this August. Event organisers are expanding the venue so even more brands can have their moment in the spotlight.
One such brand that will be making full use of the occasion is Wondaland. It takes its vintage inspiration from the 60s with its collarless coats and boxy wool shift dresses. Vintage fashion has become increasingly popular over the past few years, so Wondaland’s stand is bound to receive approval from retailers.

Local fundraiser

Kettering Town Cricket Club fundraiser (200w)

Kettering Town Cricket Club raised £200 during a recent fundraising event at their local ground on Northampton Road.

The day involved a double wicket competition where players paired up and battled it out to win a £50 prize.

Organiser and club stalwart Dale Munn, 50, from Kettering said: ‘It was a well attended event by people of all ages. The idea behind it was to build social links within the club and to raise money for equipment for the junior teams.’

The overall winners of the competition were players Richard Atherstone, 20, from South Africa and Mark Ainge, 42, from Kettering. They took part in five games against other pairs and went on to win the prize money.

Spectator Steven Wilson, 30, a fitness and lifestyle coach from Kettering said: ‘It was a fantastic and enjoyable day. All the different age groups had lots of fun getting involved.’

The event lasted until 7pm when a BBQ took place for the cricket fans to enjoy.

Members of the club are continuously aiming to improve facilities at the ground for future players. They are currently looking for sponsorship for the 2013 season.

Race complex plans

New £250m race complex plans revealed in Northamptonshire (Featured in the Extra newspaper, Kettering)
Plans for a £250 million race circuit complex in South Wales were unveiled at the Tollemache Arms public house in Harrington, Northamptonshire, today (Friday 17 August).
The scheme to build a circuit from scratch is the brainchild of two Northamptonshire residents –financier Peter Thomas who worked in the city for 20 years, and former Honda MotoGP motorcycle race team manager Chris Herring.
Planning permission has been sought for the Circuit of Wales to be sited next to the Rassau Industrial Estate north of Ebbw Vale on an 830-acre site. It is anticipated that work on the complex will start next spring with a view to completion in 2015. The goal is to host world championship level racing at the complex to include saloon car racing and MotoGP and World Superbike racing.
“The development will represent the most significant capital investment programme in automotive and motor sports infrastructure in the UK in the last 50 years,” said Peter Thomas, chief executive of Insight in Infrastructure Ltd, of Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire.
Initially he and Mr Herring had investigated the possibility of taking over an existing race track, before deciding that a new complex to include off-road motorcycle racing tracks was the way to go.
